Please Enlight me further.

I got a desktop POS app to which I want to add CC processing capabilities. The user, a retailer of a small shop, will take the CC from the customer and type in the appropriate CC info into the POS app but the workstation will not use a swipping device so all CC info has to be typed.

Is that the right escenario for your CARD NOT PRESENT setting?
