AVS error message but credit card charged

Hi,

I am integrating authorize.net for one of client sites and it is working well - however yesterday we noticed a strange issue. We were testing the application in production mode and entered credit card details with incorrect billing address - as expected we did receive the AVS error message but credit card was charged.

Ideally the transaction should have been declined and any pointers on how can this be prevented/resolved.

Which AVS error message? So the response code was 1, with a AVS code of something other than X or Y?

The card issuer can approved the transaction even if the AVS don't match.

You could change the settings on the merchant account to reject based on the AVS code.
