AUTH works but CAPTURE gives intermittent Error 16

We use the Advanced Integration Method (AIM) in our custom shopping cart system. We've been using it for over a year without a problem.

Starting yesterday, 2/21/2013, we started seeing intermittent error 16 responses for PRIOR_AUTH_CAPTURE requests. Error 16 says: The transaction cannot be found

We know the transaction exists, because we received original AUTH_ONLY transaction ID from your system. Not only that, but the PRIOR_AUTH_CAPTURE actually does capture funds even though your AIM system is telling our cart otherwise. When you look inside the Authorize.Net merchant manager the transaction is pending settlement.

So AIM is telling us the capture fails (error 16) and your merchant portal is telling us funds were captured and pending settlement. Please help us resolve this issue.

OK, we've resovled the issue. It turned out we had duplicate requests going out from two different cron jobs. These were interfering with each other so that we were getting a success but also a fail back to back.
