CIM and getting profile payment (Credit Card Profile) expiration dates

I am using CIM. It makes sense to me why GetCustomerProfile and GetPaymentProfile return the CreditCardMaskedType. My questions are:

1) I am fine with the last 4 digits being returned, and the CCV not being returned, but why is the Expiration date also masked? Most PCI compliant sites permit that to be displayed to the user.

2) Is there a different method I could use to get the expiration date returned or CreditCardType instead of masked?
