Transaction ID is 0 and Auth Code is 000000 for old auth.net account not in test mode

I’m helping integrate a client with an existing auth.net account into our system that leverages the Authorize Net Java SDK version 1.8.8. They have been using this account for some 10 years, and they tell me it’s not in production test mode; but i only get production test mode transaction ids and authCodes back. Is it possible that the auth.net java sdk is for a newer api than this customer’s account supports and this is why i get back test mode values?
