Is there a way to not use the capcha or security code box with simple checkout?

Login to the merchant account
production https://secure.authorize.net
sandbox/test https://sandbox.authorize.net/
accounts - settings - Payment Form - "Form - Fields"
at the bottom
uncheck the box for "Require the Security Code feature on the Payment Form"
