Single Customer Multiple Pay Merchant Accounts

I have a situation where a single customer's payment will need to be split to 2 seperate merchants (all exist with accounts on Authorize.net).  In other words, the customer makes a payment of $5 and $1.00 goes to one merchant and the rest goes to the other merchant.

What is the best solution for handling this type of transaction?

A provider that offers split settlement.  Unfortunately that provider is not auth.net

Replying to myself because somehow only a small portion of my message posted.  

From my perspective the right solution is a system that offers split settlement where the transaction is submitted as two amounts each designated for a specific settlement account but the end customer is charged only one combined amount.  We use a few different vendors that support that, but unfortunately auth.net isn't one of them as far as I know.
