How to test ARB silent posts in a safe environment?

Is it really true that you cannot test silent posts in your test account?

So how is one meant to write and test code?

Go live, start getting payments, and pray fervently that the code will work right first time,

when the first post comes in some sunny day at 2am PST?

Have I misunderstood something, or is there another way?

I posted more or less that exact same question a day or two ago, with code examples:

Several problems with ARB (Automated Recurring Billing)

Hopefully someone will answer one of us, this is a big problem for me.

I finally gave up and emailed developer@authorize.net. Turns out that all "card not present" test accounts (which you can sign up for separate from your actual account) have ARB enabled by default, and as long as you don't turn on test mode inside the account (or forget to turn it off, not sure which way it's set by default) the transaction should go through. Test accounts shouldn't process transactions even if test mode is not on, but they will send you notifications and maybe post to your callback form (haven't tested this yet).

Short version - get a test account, make sure test mode is turned off under settings.
