I've scheduled to take an eight-week course on C#/.NET here in the next few weeks, but I admit that I've got little idea as to what it is .NET actually does. I've read up a bit on it, but what I've read thus far has been pretty vague. Where is .NET used? My instructor said we'll be building a website which uses .NET, so I'm assuming that it works with the back-end of web development in some sort of capacity. What are some websites that use .NET? What is it meant to help accomplish?
